FSAF-PAAMS SAMP/T NG System: Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT) of the second radar KRONOS GM HP successfully completed

Paris, 29 January 2024 - Within the framework of FSAF-PAAMS Programme, the SAMP/T NG system for the Italy, integrates the new radar Kronos GM HP produced by Leonardo. This new C-band radar is a high-performance multifunctional sensor, designed to counter any type of air and missile threats simultaneously, guaranteeing high tactical mobility and quick strategic deployment.

The KRONOS GM HP radar exploits the horizontal and vertical beam steering capability of its Active Electronically Scanned Array (AESA) antenna to optimize detection, tracking, threat classification and missile guidance against multiple targets. Combined antenna management and signal processing provide for high probability detection and tracking precision even in heavy clutter. The radar has the capability to irradiate a higher power provided by the employment of new high efficiency GaN (Gallium Nitride) components in the antenna’s TRMs (Transmit and Receive Modules).

OCCAR awarded the production contract to EUROSAM in December 2021 to ensure the future integration within the SAMP/T NG sections that will be delivered in 2026. The Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT) of the radar Kronos GM HP K2 (second of production for SAMPT NG) have been performed in the presence of OCCAR experts at the LDO premises in Fusaro/ Arco Felice in Italy, achieving fully satisfactory results. The FAT activities started with the Test Readiness Review (TRR) performed on 23 January 2024 at the Leonardo’s Fusaro premises.

After the FAT, a considerable number of tests have been performed at the Leonardo site, to test all features and related performances of the Kronos radar.

SAMP/T NG’s Contracting Authority; OCCAR and industrial contractor; Eurosam, congratulate the Leonardo team for an outstanding job and express full satisfaction for the result of the second FAT, which provides the second radar for the SAMP/T NG system. This radar will be integrated in one of the SAMP/T NG sections recently contractualised by OCCAR-EA with the signature of S&E Amendment 14. This is a significant progress and commitment to the programme's success.
