Bow Section of French Navy Logistics Support Ship (LSS) Launched


Castellammare di Stabia, July 14, 2023 - One day after FOAR promulgation by OCCAR Director for LSS “Jacques Chevallier, OCCAR´s Logistic Support Ship Programme (LSS), achieved another milestone with the launching ceremony of the 2nd bow section LSS for France, to be baptised “Jacques Stosskopf”. The event took place at the Fincantieri shipyard in Castellammare di Stabia.

This technical step officially paves the way towards the final work of the bow section, launched from the slipway in the construction yard, leaving the slipway available for another LSS assembly, in this case for Italy.

The LSS “Jacques Stosskopf”, which is the third LSS to be built under the auspices of the French-Italian cooperation and the contractual framework of OCCAR, will be delivered to the French Navy by 2025, along with LSS Atlante.

The bow section has a total weight of 3.000 tonnes and is 73,82 meters long, 27,6 meters of breadth and 20,6 meters high. It is due to be transferred to Saint-Nazaire by the end of 2023 for final assembly to begin in the Spring of 2024.
