NIGHT VISION CAPABILITY PROGRAMME - Bringing Clarity to the Battlefield

NVC delivers cutting-edge night vision technology for Belgium and Germany

The Night Vision Capability (NVC) Programme equips the Belgian and German Armed Forces with advanced night vision technology to enhance operational effectiveness in conditions of limited visibility. Through common procurement and support, the programme ensures interoperability and reduces the logistical footprint during joint deployments.

Since 2020, the NVC Programme has managed the acquisition and delivery of night vision goggles for both nations. In total, approximately 178,000 NVG sets will be delivered by 2030. Deliveries are ongoing and will continue over the coming years.

In 2025, the programme introduced an additional capability: the Infrared Clip-On Device (IR-COD). This device adds infrared imaging and augmented reality functionalities, significantly improving situational awareness and operational flexibility for soldiers in the field.

The NVC Programme represents a major step toward a shared, modern night vision capability that supports mission success and strengthens cooperation between Belgium and Germany and is open for other European Nations upon request.

The selected NVG MIKRON from Theon Sensors S.A. is an innovative, lightweight, image intensified, dual tube binocular that can be operated helmet-mounted, head-mounted, or hand-held.

The selected IRCOD IRIS-C from Theon Sensors S.A. is an innovative, lightweight, thermal imaging device that can be attached to the NVG MIKRON or used as a hand-held. It includes an Augmented Reality functionality to provide the dismounted soldier with additional information.
