Riva Trigoso
(Genoa)/Italy, 3 April, 2025 - The First Steel Cutting ceremony for the first Italian
FREMM frigate in EVO-lution version (FREMM FOC EVO) took place at Fincantieri’s
integrated shipyard in Riva Trigoso (Genoa).
The event
officially marks the start of the production phase for a new series of FREMM frigates,
consisting of two additional ships ordered under the last FREMM contract
amendment signed in July 2024.
Today’s First Steel Cutting ceremony was attended by the Director of the Naval Armament Directorate
(NAVARM), Vice Admiral Giuseppe Abbamonte, the OCCAR HORIZON Programme Manager,
Mr. Luigi Durante, the CEO of Orrizzonte Sistemi Navali, Mr. Giovanni Sorrentino, the Director of the Fincanteri shipyard, Mr. Antonio Quintano and Eng. Fulvio Palermo representing the FINCANTERI Naval Vessel Division, as well as government and industry representatives.
The two
additional Italian FREMMs in the “EVO-lution” version, will be delivered in
2029 and 2030.
At this stage,
16 FREMM Frigates have been delivered, eight to Italy (out of twelve) and eight
to France (out of eight). The ninth and the tenth Italian FREMM, “Schergat” and
“Bianchi” will be delivered on 15 April and at the end of July 2025
respectively.
