OCCAR-EA Director Holds Consultations with Italian Navy Chief of Submarine Fleet

Rome/Italy, 20 May, 2025 - The OCCAR-EA Director, Mr. Joachim Sucker, recently met with the Rear Admiral Milazzo, who leads the Submarine and Underwater Dimension Department of the IT Navy General Staff, the Submarines Programme Office of the Naval Armament Directorate and he is also the Chief of the IT Submarines Fleet.

Their discussion highlighted the strong partnership between OCCAR and the Italian Navy in developing key defence capabilities.

The meeting focused on reviewing the NFS programme’s current progress and ensuring it stays on track with operational goals. They also addressed future logistical and infrastructure needs, which are vital for keeping the programme efficient and adaptable to evolving naval defence requirements. Both sides agreed that having a solid and flexible support system is crucial for long-term success.

Another important point was the contribution of national and OCCAR Subject Matter Experts (SMEs). Their expertise and dedication have played a key role in the programme’s achievements, ensuring high-quality results. Mr. Sucker and Rear Admiral Milazzo stressed the value of ongoing cooperation and knowledge sharing among all involved, reinforcing the teamwork that has been essential to the initiative.
