Brussels, Belgium | 2 June 2026- The Organisation for Joint
Armament Cooperation (OCCAR) underlined its growing significance in European
defence cooperation during a high-level event held at the Permanent
Representation of the Federal Republic of Germany to the European Union in
Brussels.
OCCAR-EA Director Joachim Sucker delivered a keynote
presentation as part of the German Representation’s “Jour Fixe” series, a forum
that regularly convenes policymakers, institutional representatives, and
industry stakeholders to discuss pressing European issues. The event brought
together participants from major EU institutions, including the European
Parliament and the European Commission, as well as representatives from the
defence sector.
In his address, Mr. Sucker emphasised the increasingly
central role OCCAR plays in managing complex, multinational armament
programmes. He highlighted the organisation’s experience in delivering
cooperative defence programmes and shared lessons learned from ongoing
initiatives. He also addressed the evolving challenges facing European
armaments cooperation, including the need for greater efficiency, and
coordination among participating nations.
Discussions focused on the future of European defence
integration, with particular attention given to strengthening cooperation
frameworks amid a rapidly changing security environment.
Prior to the presentation, Mr .Sucker engaged in high-level
talks with His Excellency Ambassador Thomas Ossowski, Germany’s Permanent Representative to
the European Union, alongside senior figures from European defence institutions
and industry. These discussions focused on strategic priorities for the sector,
notably the advancement of a “Single Market for Defence,” aimed at improving
coherence and competitiveness across Europe’s defence landscape.
The event reinforced OCCAR’s position as a key facilitator
of multinational defence cooperation and highlighted the importance of
continued dialogue between governments, EU institutions, and industry in
shaping the future of European security and defence policy.
