OCCAR ESSOR Programme F-EMIDS Preliminary Design Review Successfully Achieved

The ESSOR (European Secure Software-defined Radio) Programme successfully achieved the Preliminary Design Review of the F-EMIDS (Fighter – ESSOR MIDS) in February 2025.

The F-EMIDS is designed to replace the MIDS LVT radio terminal which provides Link 16 to all main European platforms, including the European New Generation Fighter (NGF). The entry into service of F-EMIDS radio terminal is planned around 2030. ESSOR MIDS is managed by OCCAR on behalf of the Germany, France, Italy and Spain with one Main-Contractor (EuroMIDS S.A.S) and 4 Sub-Contractors (Indra, Hensoldt, Leonardo and Thales).

This technical review concluded the preliminary design of the F-EMIDS terminal. A new stage is being integrated to start prototyping activities with the aim to carry out the first flying test in 2029.
