Venice/Italy 8-10 October, 2024 - OCCAR-EA Director,
Joachim Sucker, attended the 14th edition of the Trans-Regional Seapower
Symposium (T-RSS), held at the historic Arsenal of the Italian Navy in Venice.
Over 300 delegations from allied and partner navies, international
organizations, academia, and industry gathered to discuss critical maritime
topics.
Mr. Sucker was accompanied by Mr. Maurizio Cannarozzo,
U212 NFS PD Programme Manager, and Mr. Giovanni Baudo, U212 NFS PD Risk,
Planning & Configuration Officer. Their participation highlighted the
ongoing cooperation between OCCAR-EA and the Italian Navy in advancing
strategic underwater capabilities, particularly through the development of the
U212 NFS, a Next-Generation Submarine Programme.
The symposium, themed “A Spotlight on the Depths: The
Underwater as the New Frontier for Humankind,” focused on the complexity of the
underwater environment, addressing both its opportunities and challenges. With
panels dedicated to preserving, safeguarding, and framing the underwater
domain, the event provided an important platform for stakeholders to discuss
sustainable development, technological advancements, and regulatory frameworks
governing this rapidly evolving field.
The presence of Mr. Sucker underscored the importance
of the need for close cooperation between defense organizations and
international partners. His engagement at the symposium reflects OCCAR-EA’s and
its partners' commitment to addressing the strategic challenges posed by the
underwater domain.
The symposium concluded by emphasizing the need for
continued multinational cooperation to tackle the complexities of the
underwater environment, ensuring secure and sustainable exploration of this
vital global frontier.
