La Spezia May
9 and 16, 2024 – The Italian FREMM frigate “Spartaco Schergat” successfully
passed its First Sea Going Review on 9 May, 2024 and subsequently had its First
Sea Going in the Gulf of La Spezia on 16 May, 2024. It is the 9th Italian FREMM
frigate and the 1st in the enhanced configuration.
For the First
Sea Going Review, Industry, OCCAR FREMM Programme Division staff and national
authority representatives met to verify that all the contractual conditions are
in satisfactory order to allow the ships and their crew to sea going safely.
This phase is called First Sea Going Review.
An important
milestone in the delivery process of a military ship is the so called “First
Sea Going”. This step certifies the starting of a set of contractual trials in
order to verify the operational requirements meeting and set up the equipment
and systems on-board before delivering the vessel to the national Navy
(official acceptance).
This objective
marks another important milestone towards the delivery of the ship to the
Italian Navy, planned to take place during April 2025.
According to current
plans, the “Spartaco Schergat” will complete her sea trials by January 2025.
The FREMM
Programme for Italy is currently planning the launch of the 10th Italian FREMM
ship, the ITS Bianchi, on 25 May 2024.
In July 2024, a
new contract for the delivery of an additional two FREMM ships in “Evolution”
configuration is expected to be signed.
