German Minister of Defence Boris Pistorius visits OCCAR-EA

Bonn/Germany 15 November 2024 OCCAR-EA Director, Mr Joachim Sucker, welcomed the German Minister of Defense, Mr. Boris Pistorius, at the OCCAR-EA Bonn site.

Minister Pistorius and Director Sucker discussed the role and potential of OCCAR in European Defence Procurement initiatives. Following the signing of the OCCAR-EA guest book, the Minister first met with some 50 German OCCAR staff members for a fruitful exchange on current issues and personal experiences working in an International Organisation. Minister Pistorius expressed his support and respect for their work.

The Minister then addressed some 100 OCCAR international staff members from nine European nations at the Bonn site, congratulating them for their work, once again emphasising his strong support.

The visit concluded with a 20-minute press conference attended by the German press. In his statement, Minister Pistorius stressed his conviction of OCCAR’s management approach of complex, cooperative defence equipment programmes and that he believes in and supports the strengthening of cooperative procurement. Finally, he underlined his ongoing support for the OCCAR stating that Germany will continue to award programmes to OCCAR as the Centre of Excellence in European Defence Programmes.
