FREMM Frigate Towed Body Workshop Inaugurated - Maintenance Time to be Reduced by 50 per cent


Taranto/Italy, 24 June 2024 – In the picturesque setting of the Taranto Arsenal, the the new workshop for towed body maintenance was inaugurated. 

The event was attended by the OCCAR Director - Mr. Joachim Sucker - the Horizon PD Programme Manager - Mr. Luigi Durante - the Italian Programme Committee Representative and Director of the Italian Naval Directorate - Vice Admiral Giuseppe Abbamonte - the Commander of the IT Navy Southern Maritime Interregional Command - Vice Admiral Vincenzo Montanaro – the Arsenal Director – Admiral Pasquale De Candia - as well as representatives of industry, the Italian Navy and the arsenal workers' trade unions. The workshop's outfitting was completed under the In-Service-Support TLSM (Through Life Sustainment Management) contract. The first maintenance activity is scheduled for October 2025.

This workshop will reduce maintenance time by more than 50 per cent and significantly enhance the skills of Navy personnel through on-the-job training with industry. The workshop is equipped to carry out interventions for all FREMM units, including those currently in service for the French Navy.

The development of the workshop within the Taranto arsenal will further strength the already synergy between industry, naval operators and arsenal personnel, as well as the enhancement of a fundamental capacity for the Italian Navy fleet.
