FREMM EVO System Design Review (SDR) Achieved

Rome/La Spezia May 20, 2025 – The FREMM EVO project consists of two additional ships in a new so-called EVO-lution version ordered by Italy under the latest FREMM contract amendment signed in July 2024.

The FREMM EVO System Design Review (SDR) was completed on 20 May, 2025. This milestone represents the first step of the definition phase which will continue with the Critical Design Review (CDR) - expected to be completed by the end of the year - and has been successfully carried out in accordance with the strict system engineering principles adopted for the design of the new version of the ship.

The completion of the SDR has been a very demanding activity, requiring a considerable effort from both internal and external stakeholders, including the OCCAR HORIZON Programme Division, Nation and Industry, who are working together to identify the most innovative technological solutions to counter today’s sophisticated threats and to meet the Nation’s requirements in terms of cost, time and performance.

The two additional Italian FREMM EVO will be delivered in 2029 and 2030.

To date, OCCAR has delivered 17 FREMM Frigates, nine to Italy (out of twelve) and eight to France (out of eight). The tenth Italian FREMM “Bianchi” will be delivered by the end of July 2025.
