OCCAR HYDEF Programme Successfully Achieves Major Concept Selection Milestone (CSM)

Überlingen 26-28 August 2025. DIEHL hosted the Hypersonic Defence Interceptor (HYDEF)´s Concept Selection Milestone Meeting at its industrial facility in Überlingen/Germany.

The CSM was conducted under the management of OCCAR HYDEF PD, with the active participation of the entire HYDEF consortium, led by SMS as Project Coordinator, Diehl Defence as Technical Coordinator and all involved Work Package leaders. Representatives from the HYDEF Participating States also attended the event, providing valuable feedback and confirming the strong alignment of the project with European defence priorities.

A systematic trade-off study was conducted for all the concepts under consideration. This study entailed evaluating each option against the project’s requirements and operational environment. Additionally, potential risks and uncertainties were identified and addressed, taking into account all aspects of the system, such as technical, programmatic and cost-related factors. The result of this comprehensive evaluation was a well-supported concept proposal, ready for further refinement.

With the achievement of this Milestone, HYDEF Consortium is on the way of successfully closing the first stage of the Programme in the planned date of October 2026.

“The European Hypersonic Defence Interceptor (EU HYDEF) is a project co-funded by the European Union, under the European Defence Fund, and Belgium, Germany, Norway, Poland and Spain. OCCAR has been entrusted the management of the EU HYDEF project by the European Commission (EC) and the Participating States.”
