Rome/Italy – 25 June 2025, The OCCAR-EA Director, Joachim Sucker, has signed Contract Amendment Nr. 9 for the OCCAR Multipurpose Patrol Ship (PPA) Programme, on behalf of Italy and the Temporary Consortium between Fincanteri represented by Eng. Fulvio Palermo, Vice President of Project Management. Leonardo was represented by Eng. Andrea Mattozzi, Senior Vice President Naval Systems LoB.
Also attending the signing ceremony was the Italian Programme Committee Representative and Director of the Italian Naval Directorate, Vice Admiral Giuseppe Abbamonte, the newly appointed OCCAR PPA Programme Manager Daniele Sangermano and the OCCAR Head of Programmes
The Amendment was approved to start construction and production of two new Multipurpose Patrol Ships (PPA) for the Italian Navy and replace those sold to the Indonesian Navy.
In addition, the Amendment was awarded to increase the contractual provisions and to introduce several technical changes (ECPs). To date, the OCCAR PPA Programme is in a mature stage, as the first four units of the class, “Thaon di Revel” (PPA1), “Francesco Morosini” (PPA2) and “Raimondo Montecuccoli” (PPA3) and Giovanni delle Bande Nere (PPA4) have successfully been delivered to the Italian Navy by OCCAR.
The next main milestone for the Programme will be the delivery of the PPA7 Vessel – in Full version, scheduled during 2026.
The two new PPA multi-role combat ships, in the “Light Plus” configuration, will be built by Fincantieri at the integrated shipyards in Riva Trigoso and Muggiano, with planned deliveries in 2029 and 2030, respectively.
